Local Dog Notes
Palo Alto mixes leafy neighborhoods, a bustling research core, and beloved parks. Dog owners get a little of everything: Mitchell Park and Rinconada for shaded, leashed loops; the Baylands for long, flat mileage among egrets; and two convenient, fenced dog parks (Mitchell and Greer) for off‑leash social time. Downtown and California Avenue patios are broadly dog‑friendly — bring a mat for longer hangs. The popular Stanford Dish loop just outside city limits does not allow dogs; swap in Baylands or Windy Hill (leashed) when you want open views. Summer afternoons can be hot inland; mornings deliver cool air under big trees, and evening breezes roll in from the bay. The city keeps dispensers in many parks, but carry a backup roll — popular lawns can run out by sunset on busy weekends.
