Coat: Smooth

How often should a Turkish Mastiff be groomed?

The Turkish Mastiff’s short, smooth coat is low maintenance but still needs regular care to stay healthy and shiny. Shedding is light to moderate, so weekly brushing with a rubber curry or bristle brush will keep loose hairs under control and stimulate the skin. Bathing every 4 to 8 weeks is enough to keep them clean without stripping natural oils. Their nails should be trimmed every 2 to 4 weeks, and ears checked monthly to prevent buildup. Pay special attention to mask areas, especially black or silver masks, as dirt can show more easily there. Use a damp cloth to gently wipe these spots if needed. - Brush weekly with rubber curry or bristle brush - Bathe every 4–8 weeks, avoid over-bathing - Trim nails every 2–4 weeks - Clean ears monthly - Spot clean mask areas as needed Pro tip: Use a conditioning spray after baths to keep the coat sleek and reduce static, especially in drier months.

About the Turkish Mastiff

The Turkish Mastiff, also called the Aksaray Malaklisi, is a massive guardian breed hailing from central Turkey. This dog was bred to protect livestock against predators like wolves and bears, so it carries a powerful, muscular frame and a commanding presence. Their short, smooth coat comes in colors like brindle, fawn, and biscuit with striking patterns such as black masks or Dutch markings. Despite their size, Turkish Mastiffs move with surprising agility and grace. They tend to be calm and gentle with family but maintain a reserved, watchful stance around strangers. Early socialization is key to managing their strong protective instincts and ensuring they’re well-mannered in a variety of settings.
