Coat: Smooth

How often should a Neapolitan Mastiff be groomed?

Neapolitan Mastiffs have a short, smooth coat that sheds lightly to moderately. Weekly brushing with a rubber curry or bristle brush helps remove loose hairs and keeps their skin healthy by stimulating circulation. Bathing should be done every 4 to 8 weeks to avoid drying out their skin; over-bathing can cause irritation. Nail trimming every 2 to 4 weeks is necessary to prevent discomfort, and ears should be checked and cleaned monthly to avoid buildup. Their coat colors include black, blue, mahogany, and tawny, often with brindle markings. These colors require no special stain care but regular grooming keeps their coat looking its best. Wrinkles need attention too; gently cleaning between folds prevents dirt accumulation. - Brush weekly with rubber curry or bristle brush - Bathe every 4–8 weeks - Trim nails every 2–4 weeks - Clean ears monthly - Wipe wrinkles regularly Pro tip: Use a damp cloth to clean facial folds daily to prevent odor and debris buildup.

About the Neapolitan Mastiff

The Neapolitan Mastiff, originating from Italy, is a massive dog breed known for its loose, wrinkled skin and imposing presence. These dogs descend from ancient war dogs used by Romans, prized for their guarding abilities and strength. Their broad heads and deep-set eyes give them a distinctive, formidable look that commands respect. Despite their intimidating size, Neapolitan Mastiffs have a calm demeanor and tend to be gentle with family members, including children. They require early socialization to manage their natural wariness of strangers and to ensure they adapt well to various environments. Their loyalty and protective instincts make them excellent guardians, but they thrive best in quieter homes with fewer visitors.
